The Costs page adds up costs by calendar period: a calendar month, a calendar quarter or a calendar year. It doesn't use rolling periods such as “the last three months”. The label above the total always says which months you're looking at.
The three views
- Month: one calendar month, for example October 2026 (1–31 October).
- Quarter: one calendar quarter. The year has four: January–March, April–June, July–September and October–December.
- Year: one calendar year, 1 January to 31 December.
Why “This quarter” can look almost empty
“This quarter” is the calendar quarter you're in now, so early in a quarter it covers only a few weeks. On 10 October, for example, this quarter is Oct – Dec 2026 and only shows costs from October so far. September's costs are in the previous quarter, Jul – Sep 2026.
To see the previous quarter, tap ‹ once. The same applies to This year in January: tap ‹ to see last year.
Stepping through periods
- Use ‹ and › beside the label to go back or forward one whole month, quarter or year, depending on the view you're in.
- Tap the label itself to jump back to the current month, quarter or year.
- Switching between Month, Quarter and Year always starts from the current one.
Which costs count in a period
A cost counts in the period that contains the date you gave the cost, not the day you logged it. A school trip logged on 2 October but dated 28 September is in September, and in the July–September quarter. See A cost isn't showing in this month's total if one seems to be missing.
The “Previous” comparison
Under the total, a small figure shows the period before the one you're viewing (previous month, quarter or year), so you can compare the two. It's left out when it couldn't be a fair comparison, for example when part of that earlier period isn't shown on your plan.
On the free plan
The free plan shows a limited window of recent costs. If the period you pick starts before that window, the total covers only the part you can see and says so, with the date it counts from. Older costs are kept in full. Nothing is deleted, and they all show again on Premium. Your plan's window is shown on the Billing page.
