Delete my account or leave the household

Delete your account self-service via Settings — confirmation code by email, then a 7-day cooling-off window. Leaving a household is handled by support.

You have the right to delete your De Kind account at any time. Account deletion is now self-service. Leaving a household (removing yourself from the shared record but keeping your account) is a separate flow and is still handled manually by our support team — see below.

Delete my account — step by step

  1. Go to Settings → Danger zone and click Delete account.
  2. Read the confirmation, then click Send confirmation code. We email a 6-digit code to your account email. It expires in 15 minutes.
  3. Enter the code in the modal and click Confirm deletion.
  4. Your account is now scheduled for deletion 7 days from now. A red banner appears at the top of every page in the app showing the date.
  5. You'll also get a cooling-off email confirming the schedule, with a Cancel deletion link.

Changed your mind?

You can cancel any time during the 7-day window:

  • From the Cancel deletion button in the red in-app banner, or
  • From the cancel link in the cooling-off email.

Either path immediately removes the scheduled deletion. You'll get a confirmation email so you know it worked.

What happens at the 7-day mark

  • Your personal identifiers are permanently removed: email, display name, password hash, your authentication record, and your push-notification subscriptions.
  • Your contributions to the shared household record (custody log entries you logged, requests you sent, costs you logged) remain in the household with your identifier blanked — they show as "Removed parent" in any future export or PDF report. This preserves the legal integrity of the other parent's record.
  • If you have an active Premium subscription, it's cancelled in Stripe automatically as part of the deletion.
  • An audit row is written to our deletion log noting the date and that it was self-initiated. The log is retained for compliance.

Before you go

Consider exporting your data first — free, instant, gives you a complete JSON copy of everything we hold on you.

What about the other parent?

They're not affected. They continue to use De Kind exactly as before. The shared household and all your contributions are preserved; your name/identifier just no longer appears against them.

Leaving the household (without deleting your account)

If you want to remove yourself from the shared record but keep your De Kind account (e.g. to start fresh with a different co-parent), that's still handled manually. Email [email protected] with the subject "Leave household request" — we process within 30 days per UK GDPR.

For the full legal terms on retention and erasure, see our Privacy Policy.
